Cookie Policy

Effective: March 20, 2026Last updated: April 6, 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser. We also use similar technologies including pixels (tiny transparent images embedded in emails or web pages) and local storage.

These technologies help us operate the Service, analyze usage, and deliver relevant advertising.

2. Cookies We Use

Strictly Necessary: Clerk authentication cookies (__clerk_db_jwt, __session) for session management; Cloudflare bot protection (__cf_bm, 30 minutes); Cityligence consent preferences (cookie_consent, do_not_sell, 12 months); and Mapbox tokens for map rendering. These cannot be disabled.

Analytics (requires consent): Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) for usage analytics including pages visited, feature adoption, and session duration. Duration: 2 years. When analytics consent is given, we also collect content engagement data (article impressions, clicks, dwell time, scroll depth, saves, dismissals, and feedback) that is stored server-side in our database and associated with your user account. This server-side engagement tracking is gated on the same analytics consent preference — if you decline cookies, no engagement data is collected. The newsroom feed continues to function without engagement tracking, using rules-based scoring only.

Advertising (requires consent, opt-out via CCPA): Platform-specific retargeting pixels (Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn — not yet active) for matching visitors to ad platform profiles. Duration varies by platform.

3. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies are set by third-party services we use (Google Analytics, Clerk, Cloudflare, Mapbox, and future advertising platforms).

These third parties may collect information about your online activities across different websites over time. We do not control these third-party cookies. Please refer to each provider's privacy policy for details.

4. Your Choices

Cookie banner: On your first visit, a banner will appear informing you about our use of cookies. You may click "Accept" to enable analytics and advertising cookies, or "Decline non-essential" to suppress them. Both options have equal prominence. Clicking the close button does not set any preference — the banner will reappear until you make an explicit choice. Navigating away without interacting does not constitute consent.

Browser settings: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings. Note that blocking cookies may affect the functionality of the Service.

Google Analytics opt-out: Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).

Do Not Sell or Share: Click the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in our site footer to opt out of advertising/retargeting cookies.

Global Privacy Control (GPC): We honor Global Privacy Control and similar browser-based opt-out preference signals. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we will automatically suppress retargeting/advertising cookies without requiring further action.

Email pixels: Most email clients allow you to disable image loading, which blocks tracking pixels. Note this will also block other images in our emails.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or technology. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.

Cookie Policy updates take effect upon posting. Material changes to cookie practices that affect your rights will also be reflected in Privacy Policy updates (which require 30 days' notice).
